Understanding The Role Of An Individual As A Rail Track Repair and Maintenance Worker



In the past few years, the career opportunities in the rail industry have increased to a great deal and many individuals have started seeking their career in this field. Though there are several positions for which one can apply, all of them a certain level of certification. The entry level certification can allow you to work as maintenance worker. As a maintenance worker, an individual is required to inspect the railway tracks and carry out the required repair and maintenance work. Apart from the rail track, they are also required to keep an eye on the maintenance of the tunnels, viaducts and bridges and ensure smooth running of the trains.

If you have the certification, you can apply for this job but if you do not, you will have to take up the course. There are many rail training UK institutes that offer different courses to the candidates. You can get enrolled in any one of them that is certified and offers accredited courses to get a certification.
Apart from the certification, you should also have information regarding the duties that you will have to carry out as a maintenance officer.

·         Inspecting the railway tracks for damages or repair.

·         Installing new tracks or renewing the tunnels, bridges or level crossings.

·         Measuring the tracks in order to make sure that the sections are placed at a right distance and right height.

·         Conducting site surveys.

·         Handing welding equipments, pneumatic tools etc. 

The maintenance workers usually work as team and you will have to carry out the tasks as instructed by your team leader.
